2020 Cumberland Fair canceled due to coronavirus outbreak

Organizers have canceled the 2020 Cumberland County Fair due to the coronavirus outbreak.In a letter posted on the fair’s Facebook page, Lyle Merrifieild, President of the Cumberland Farmers Club, said it would not be possible to put on the event and adhere to the adjustments recommended by the CDC, such as physical distancing.Merrifield said many events and attractions would have been eliminated, and the overall look and feel would be significantly changed if the fair had happened.The Cumberland County Fair has happened every year since 1868 with the exception of 1919 and 1920 during the Spanish Flu pandemic.Organizers have started to plan next year’s fair, which is scheduled for September 26 – October 2, 2021.
