Maine police investigate 3 reported attempted abductions across state

Police are investigating three separate reports of attempted abductions across Maine.In Hampden, police said a teenage girl was walking along Main Road around 6 p.m. on Tuesday when a man driving a black SUV followed and then pulled alongside her. The girl said the man offered her $100 in an apparent attempt to get her into his vehicle.The girl was not hurt.The vehicle was described as newer and very nice with multi-colored LED lights on the interior roof. It may have had Georgia license plates.The driver was described as having a dark complexion, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, with greasy black hair in a ponytail. He may also have had a small beard.Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or person or was in the area Monday evening is asked to call Hampden Police at 207-862-4000.Police said there was another reported attempted abduction in Bangor involving a 14-year-old girl.Bangor police said they are working with Hampden police. Officials in both communities said they have received reports of male driving a dark-colored SUV with out-of-state license plates.Police said driver is reported to have approached women walking in various neighborhoods. This man is alleged to strike up conversations and making the females feel uncomfortable.The third incident happened in Northeast Harbor involving a woman in her 60s. Police have not said if they are connected or are separate incidents.
