A Maine woman is helping to fulfill the needs of many people living in Knox County.Sharon Hobson founded the organization One Less Worry. Her group collects and distributes essential care products.Hobson said her group gives people one less thing to worry about.”The most essential things we think we can provide are tampons, pads, bladder pads, toilet paper,” Hobson said.Working from inside her home in Rockland, Hobson each week packs up thousands of essentials. Each box full of items is delivered to or picked up by one of two dozen community help groups.Among the groups is The Landing Place, which helps homeless and at-risk teens.“Without Sharon’s contributions, we would have to purchase the products, which would be a significant part of our budget,” Kim Bernard, of The Landing Place, said.”Every once in a while, I’ll get an email from someone. They don’t have a car. They don’t have access, so I drive them the tampons and pads to them,” Hobson said.Hobson said while it is a full-time job, she said she could not do it alone. Nearly 150 volunteers help her package, distribute and fundraise. Only about a third of the products are donated. One Less Worry buys the rest.“We do a lot of big work. This year it’ll be something like 70,000 tampons and pads we’ll be distributing. That doesn’t happen with me just standing on the corner,” Hobson said.Each month, she manages to collect a shed full of essentials.Hobson said the supplies go quickly, which highlights the growing need in the community.
