New baseball and softball fields will be built in Auburn with the help of the Maine National Guard.The Auburn Suburban Baseball and Softball League announced it is building a new complex at the Maine Army National Guard training facility near Mount Apatite.The National Guard is in negotiations to help build the fields and complex.”We have the only two sheets of indoor ice in the state of Maine. We have an indoor turf facility. This complements that between our ski mountains, our laking, our boating, our biking and hiking. This really helps makes Auburn a sports tourism destination for all of New England,” Mayor Jason Levesque said.A ground-breaking ceremony is planned for Friday. The complex is expected to be finished by 2022.
