Prisoner tests positive for COVID-19 at Windham Correctional Center

A prisoner at the Windham Correctional Center has tested positive for COVID-19.In a statement, the prison says the inmate was showing symptoms Saturday and was immediately moved into isolation. He was tested Sunday and the results were released Tuesday. The inmate’s name as not been released. A spokesperson says he was transferred to the facility in early March and has not needed to be hospitalized so far.The WCC says it is working with the Maine CDC to test inmates and staff who may have been in areas the inmate had been.The Department of Corrections said it worked with the Maine CDC to create guidelines to handle a positive coronavirus case. Some of the measures include keeping the inmate in an isolated area, locking down the area in which the inmate lived and monitoring the inmate’s symptoms.The DOC has also created a section on its website that offers daily updates on testing and prison populations.
